Basic training (all dogs) after assessment

• Sit stay heel recall stop hunt basic pattern (SPN)
• Simple retrieve (Seen Only)

Novice training (Suitable Dogs)

• All of above (Basic) Plus drop to shot and whistle, simple left and right retrieve on command back retrieve, introduced to fur and feather,
• Retrieve same, steady on command, retrieve from water, simple blind retrieve, game experience.

Advanced (Rare Commodity)

• All of above , dog fully trained, steady to command and flush, retrieve on command seen and unseen, ready for full shooting day on variety of game, dog ready to complete at open standard field trial,

Training a dog is a time consuming exercise, no two dogs train the same way or in the same time frame,
Some dogs take to training easily and others don’t take to it at all,

Assessment of dogs is normally completed after 8-14 days. Time is required for dogs to settle in new surroundings and to new handler, if a dog is assessed as being suitable for basic training this does not automatically mean it is possible to train o advanced standard, the best training is experience and ability of handler to control dog in working environment .

Most well bred suitable dogs train to good novice standards and then with experience in the field and good handling technique some of these dogs go on to be fully trained dogs. Some handler require their dog to be a standard that they can find, flush and retrieve game in the rough shooting field, some require more i.e. field trial dogs. None of this can be achieved unless the handler is as competent as the dog, dogs have to be handled sensibly and with commonsense.

Time is money and the standard you require your dog to reach is impossible to predict and varies which each dog, no good dog should be rushed and no bad dog should be forced. At Delvin Kennels we train suitable dogs to owners requirements, we train handlers as well all good dogs have a good handler. We have 10 acres to train dogs in rural setting and if dog is suitable to go on to novice standards we have game to train on. Delvin Kennels Gun Dog Training

If you wish to have your gundog trained professionally, residential training is available for any length of stay, from 1 night to 6 months!

We advise that you book your dog in as early as you can as we often have a waiting list. Payment for long term training is payable every four weeks, commencing one week before we take your dog. To achieve a respectable standard most dogs require between six and eight months training, taking into account any bad habits that your dog may have picked up. Please contact us to help assess your dogs specific requirements relevant to breed type and existing training.

You may already have a good gundog that just needs finishing touches that you want to train yourself.
It's no good buying a part or fully trained dog if you don't then know how to control it in the field!
Why not come and have a lesson with your dog so that you can understand and learn the correct skills to control and handle your dog.

• Group - 20.00 per hour per owner.

One to One Gundog Training On Shoot

• For gundog owners one to one - 45.00 per hour
